NEOM, Saudi Arabia — The first components of Aquafarm Equipment’s closed containment system have now arrived at the Port of NEOM.

With the site secured and foundations underway, the project is moving into full assembly and preparation for operation — a milestone that brings Norwegian aquaculture technology to one of the most ambitious development projects in the world.

— The elements were unloaded last week, and we’re now setting up site offices, fencing the area, and preparing the foundations for assembly, according to Project Manager Martin Ramstad, who soon arrives to oversee operations. – If everything runs smoothly, we’ll start lamination within a few weeks.”

Two Extreme Environments – One Proven Technology

Aquafarm Equipment is currently delivering in two vastly different climates — from the icy waters of northern Norway to the desert heat of the Red Sea. As Ramstad puts it: – There’s about a 20-degree difference between these two projects, and that’s just in the air temperature.

This contrast illustrates perfectly how adaptable Aquafarm’s technology has become. Our closed containment systems are designed to maintain stable, controlled environments regardless of temperature or local conditions – proof that sustainable fish farming can thrive both in Arctic fjords and in one of the hottest regions on Earth.

For the Norwegian aquaculture industry, this represents more than technical success. It’s a demonstration that homegrown innovation can scale globally, setting a new standard for closed and sustainable production in international markets.

For Aquafarm Equipment, it’s defining. NEOM is a significant international contract where we don’t just deliver: we build and operate a full facility for three years as a proof of concept before handover to Topian.

— We’re proving that both the technology and the team can perform in extremes – from sub-zero operations to Red Sea heat – and we hope this will open doors across the Red Sea region as well as into Asia, says Ramstad.

A Complete Facility for NEOM

In NEOM, Aquafarm Equipment isn’t just delivering a cage, it’s building an entire aquaculture facility. The project includes an onshore base with operations offices, warehouse, power connections, and a feed barge.
We will also operate the facility for three years as part of a proof of concept phase before the client, Topian, takes over.

– In Norway, we deliver single Aquafarm units, says Ramstad. – In NEOM, we’re responsible for the full-scale facility, from construction to operation. It’s a big step for us as a company.

Looking Ahead

If progress continues according to plan, the first Yellowtail Kingfish will be stocked by May or early summer 2026.

The NEOM project marks Aquafarm Equipment’s first major international delivery, and a defining moment for Norwegian aquaculture technology on the global stage.

Aquafarm Equipment is proud to play a central role in shaping the future of sustainable aquaculture — proving that innovation developed in Norway can succeed anywhere in the world.
